So Aunt Cori decided a few months ago that she wanted to come out to visit us for Tucker's first birthday. She was only going to get to be here for a few days, but we were excited to see her. Grandma and Grandpa Munro had talked a little about maybe coming out, but I hadn't heard anything for awhile, so we made lots of fun plans with Cori. Just 2 weeks before Cori left, Grandma and Grandpa decided that they didn't want to get left out, so they booked their tickets, as well as Dustin's. They got to be here for a week, but wanted to surprise the kids and not tell them. I think next time they want to try the surprise route, I am going to discourage it because the whole trip was full of surprises!
Their flight originally was supposed to come in about 9:30 on Thursday night. Cori left early morning, but had 2 layovers and was supposed to get in about 9:00. We told the kids we were going to get her and the plan was we were going to have wait for "something" of hers that didn't make it on her flight. It was such a good plan until Grandma, Grandpa, and Dustin were on their flight and were told they had to get off due to mechanical problems. Their flight was canceled and since they had the last flight out for the day, they ended up having to stay over night in Indianapolis and fly out early the next morning. What a fiasco!
So, we picked Cori up and brought the kids home to sleep, then got up in the morning, shipped Carson off to school and then went to pick the rest of them up. Hallie had no clue why we were back at the airport and she got the funniest look on her face when she realized that it really was Grandma and Grandpa heading towards her. We picked up their luggage, grabbed some lunch and then headed home to let them unpack a little and then up to the school to surprise Carson. He was SO surprised, it was funny! I got a good picture of him on Cori's camera, but I need to get it from her.
With Carson home from school, we were all hanging out and Cori went to go out our back sliding door onto the patio. Derrick made some smart remark as she was walking out and she turned around to shut the door and make comment back, when her ankle rolled out from under her. She tried to carch herself with the other foot and that ankle rolled as well. She ended up on the ground in seconds. We ended up a the Urgent Care, where they found one ankle broken and the other sprained. They put both in air casts and sent her home with instructions to see an orthopaedic surgeon as soon as she got back.
The air casts didn't provide much support and we were concerned with how she was going to manage traveling home by herself, so Friday morning, we made a few calls and got her in to see an ortho doc here. Derrick made arrangements for a wheelchair and away we weent. She ended up in a walking boot on the broken foot and a lace-up brace on the sprained one. That gave her a lot more support and she was able to start putting a little weight on the sprained one and use her crutches more.
Saturday we had planned on going to Virginia City and Cori was a great sport and came along, wheel chair and all! We had a lot of fun seeing the historic city and even got to go on a tram and train rides. We hurried back home that night, since it was Tucker's birthday and had his cake and presents.
Cori's flight left early Sunday morning and we were very glad to hear that she had made it safely and the airlines had taken good care of her. Monday and Tuesday, we hung around and just enjoyed spending time as a family and then the rest of the crew left on Wednesday.
The trip itself didn't turn out as planned, but it will definitely be one that we will remember for years to come!
